Check mate

This week, we are inspired by the catwalks of Chanel and Oscar de la Renta. Check was featured all over the
AW19 catwalks but what I loved most was the way they redefined traditional check with unexpected colourways
and patterns..
We have a lot of check in store at Divine and more on the way but I have picked some pieces you can easily
work into your wardrobe. We want pieces you can wear, daytime, nighttime, functional yet fashionable. Pieces
you can mix and match into your wardrobe, easy and effortlessly.

First up is one of my FAVOURITES.

It is from Turkish label Exquise and I just love the colourway, the mix
of brown, green and BOLD blue, the oversized yet tailored style. And the pockets…. Well what can I Say. L.O.V.E. This also comes with a matching Aline skirt. Which I do like, but for me, I will wear with my favourite H20 skinnes (and I have my eyes on a pair of BOLD blue shoes pointy courts from Zara). For daytime
I am loving our tan studded block heeled boots. I show the skirt here with a blue top which really brings out the colour in the skirt and the fab stripe down the side.

I am obsessed with this check dress. Its ultra wearable. It will take you from day to night. Its warm, cosy andcomfortable, everything I love in clothing. And anyone who knows me, knows I love a dress. This particular one just has an effortless cool edge that says; you have dressed to impress but did not try too hard.
A definite Mary’s Must Have! I wear it here with burgundy studded heel boots which have a block heel and are totally wearable day to night too!

This waistcoat style dress is refined and polished yet easily transformed. Worn with
bare arms here for night time sophistication, it can be easily transformed to a day dress by adding either a black polo or a crisp white shirt underneath. Layer with a chunky knit for a real 70’s posh girl look.

I could go on and on but I will leave you with this absolute beauty. The attention to detail in this dress is exquisite. The fabric, cut, beautiful swing skirt and the velvet belt. Just beautiful! This is one you can definitely dress up or down for an event. I feel this is one you will have in your wardrobe for many years to come and bring out year after year. It’s a beauty!
We’ve seen plenty of variations of check this season, on structured blazers, Nancy Drew trench coats, bags and tapered trousers. Checked garments have been adored by royal families for a reason, as they instantly make you look refined and polished. Not that they can’t be played around with – check patterns dyed with bright, unexpected colours are the way to redefine tradition!
Hope you enjoy our take on check.
